EASTLEIGH boss Kelvin Davis insisted Saints loanee Jake Vokins "proved his ability" with an assist during their 1-0 win at Kidderminster to seal National League survival.

The 24 year old set up top scorer Paul McCallum with an excellent run and cross for the only goal of the game.

Vokins has started all four games since arriving at the Silverlake Stadium on loan until the end of the season.

He joined the club along with another Saints youngster in 20 year old Will Merry, who has made one substitute appearance for Eastleigh.

Speaking to Eastleigh's club media, Davis claimed the winger is ready to push on with his career.

He said: "I know Jake very well from being at Southampton. I’ve watched him grow and mature. He’s a good age now. He’s 24 and he wants to get on with his career.

"He’s probably stuttered a bit more than he would have liked and what we would have expected. But that can happen, you can get in those positions in the game."

The loanee has earned England recognition in the past, featuring at England under-17, under-18, and under-19 levels.

He has also appeared five times for Southampton's first team and scored in an FA Cup tie against Huddersfield Town in January 2020.

Davis continued: "We’ve managed to give him an opportunity to come and express himself. We know what his skillset is. He can run. He can cross a ball.

"We know what his weaknesses are and we accept them because if his strengths are going to outweigh them, then why not?

"He proved that today with his run and his crossing ability to get the goal that won us the three points."

Eastleigh have two matches remaining this season against Wealdstone on Tuesday before completing their campaign by hosting Halifax Town on Saturday, April 20.
