FORMER Ventnor batsman Travis Head rewrote the record books on his List A debut for Yorkshire today.
The Australian, who was top scorer in the Southern Premier League in 2013 in his only season with the Isle of Wight club, hammered 175 in a Royal London One Day Cup routing of Leicestershire at Grace Road.
Head put on a record 274 with Jack Leaning as the visitors romped to a 191 run success.
The 22-year-old struck his runs off 139 balls, while Leaning finished unbeaten on 131 off 110 deliveries as Yorkshire recorded 376 for three - their highest List A total against another first-class county, beating the 352 for six made against Nottinghamshire at Scarborough in 2001.
That match 15 years ago saw another Aussie, Darren Lehmann, hit 191 – Yorkshire’s only one day innings that is higher than Head’s 175.
Leaning's maiden one-day century contributed to Yorkshire's highest List A partnership alongside Head and keeps the visitors on course for the quarter-finals.
Head had only previously played three T20 Blast games for the Tykes in what is his first spell of English county cricket.
