JACK Midson will be playing against Eastleigh rather than for them next season after completing a move to National League rivals Braintree Town.

The 32-year-old former Oxford and AFC Wimbledon hitman scored 11 goals in 83 games for the Spitfires over two seasons, but was released by manager Chris Todd having failed to find the net in 2015/16.

"I think he got a bit frustrated last season, but he's raring to go and will do really well for us," predicted new Braintree boss Jamie Day, who has replaced Danny Cowley, now of Lincoln City, at the Iron helm.

"Jack has a lot of experience at this level and above and I think he has a point to prove as he didn't score as many goals as he would have liked last year.

"I'm so pleased to have got him as his record shows what a fantastic player he is.”

Midson joins ex-Saint Lee Barnard and Michael Cheek in what Day hopes will be a formidable frontline for last season’s play-off semi-finalists.

Speedy winger Matty Fanimo, another player let go by Eastleigh this summer, has signed for Margate of the National League South.
