Adam Wheater responded to being dropped by Hampshire with a season's best 147 - including EIGHT sixes

Wheater also hit 12 fours from his 189 balls in a Second Eleven Championship match against Glamorgan at Neath.

Joe Weatherley (12), Ben Duggan (35), Brad Taylor (5) and Jake Goodwin (8) were all dimissed before an unbroken partnership of 141 with Gareth Andrew (43*).

Wheater was finally out to the first ball after a rain interruption, which left Hampshire 261-5.

Hampshire coach Dale Benkenstein replaced Wheater with Lewis McManus against Somerset.

"We want to give Lewis a good run,” he explained.

“We’ve had 251 extras in six matches and three points docked for a slow over rate.

“We need Lewis behind the stumps to put more energy into the field and between the wickets.

“Every time he’s played he’s shown good character. I’ve given Adam a long run and he’s batting really well.

“I see him pushing guys in the top order but he doesn’t see himself as a batter. With the gloves he's not what we need right now."
