JAMES Vince could make his England T20 debut against Australia tomorrow – 48 hours after breaking the domestic competition’s batting record at Finals Day.

But even becoming the first player to score more than 700 runs in the 13-year history of the T20 tournament was of scant consolation to Hampshire’s captain in the immediate aftermath of the semi-final defeat against Lancashire.

“I didn’t even know that was the case,” said a disconsolate Vince.

Vince’s 60-ball 69 took him to 710 runs in 16 innings at an average of 59.16, past Michael Klinger’s 654 as the highest aggregate in this season’s T20 Blast.

It also ensured he overhauled the record 677 that Jason Roy made for Surrey in last year’s tournament.

He could well now be rewarded for his recent form with a place in the team that plays the Aussies in today’s one-off T20 international at Cardiff’s Swalec Stadium.

Vince was left out of England’s last T20 team, following his call-up for the match against New Zealand at Old Trafford in June.

But his recent runs (290 at 145 in his last four T20 innings) demand inclusion.
