Former Hampshire star Shahid Afridi has signed for Northamptonshire.

The Pakistan legend starred for Hampshire in 2011 and will return to England for his third county stint this summer, after agreeing to play six T20 games for Northants.

All-rounder Afridi, 34, was outstanding with the ball in ten games for Hampshire four years ago.

He took 17 wickets at 11.17 with his leg-spin, including 5-20 v Gloucestershire on his home debut.

And he also contributed 180 runs at 20, including a top score of 80 in the semi-final defeat against Somerset at Edgbaston, where he was distraught following the super-over defeat as the nominated batsman and bowler.

Afridi, who played for Leicestershire in 2001, also played for Hampshire in the two Champions League defeats of 2012.

He is the second ex-Hampshire player to sign for Northants this month following Rory Kleinveldt's move to Wantage Road.
