It was party time as South African international Ignacius Malgraff scored four times as Trojans sank South League Premier 2 strugglers Barnes with an eight-goal second half blitz at Stoneham Lane.

The Eastern Province hit-man took his personal tally for the season to 12 as Trojans rounded off the autumn term with an 11-1 romp and a fourth straight win – one which leaves them in third place in the league.

“We’ll settle for that. Eight wins from 11 matches after last season’s promotion isn’t bad,” reflected manager Mike Watts.

“We took heavy beatings in the two games we’ve lost – against Horsham and Henley – but we’ve handed out a few pastings.”

One such was against Barnes, whose tally of 61 goals conceded in ten matches is the worst in Premier Division 2.

Highly rated KES hockey coach Calum Crichton and former pupil Eddie Evans each scored twice alongside Rory King and Mark Seeley.

Lured out of retirement, Paul Hilton completed the rout, drawing praise from his manager.

“Paul’s still got that bit of class,” glowed Watts.

Chris Davey and David Roache each scored twice as Fareham II cemented themselves into a mid-table Hampshire/Surrey Regional Division 1 standing with a 6-3 win at Chichester, who lie one place above them.

Teenage duo Callum McInally and Simon Cardy completed the scoring for Fareham, while former Havant striker Martin Gough twice replied.

All Southampton had to show from a 4-1 defeat by Bournemouth at Chapel Gate was a late consolation from Rob O’Brien.

“We were generally out-muscled and out-fought by a physically stronger side. We had early opportunities but were unable to force either the goal or a short corner for our efforts,” conceded manager Paul Meacher.

Penalty corner conversions by Sam Bury and Carl Ferrand – the second on the stroke of halt-time – left Southampton trailing 2-0 at the break.

As Southampton chased the game, so Bournemouth doubled the winning margin through Richard Herring and Ollie Mallinson, while O’Brien’s late goal was only academic.

Fellow strugglers Hamble go into the winter break without a win – the 4-3 defeat at Havant being their ninth alongside two draws.

Mark Eaton, Andrew Galliers, Bradley Lock and Southampton Solent University’s Oli Nail scored for Havant, with Mark Hobbs, Kyle Stubley and Nick Williams responding.
