Eastleigh manager Richard Hill will be treating tonight’s Hampshire Senior Cup match against Horndean at Five Heads Park (7.45pm) just as seriously as any other cup or league match.

It would be easy for Hill to disregard a competition like the Senior Cup with a busy schedule in the Vanarama Conference and the FA Cup.

But Hill reminded his fans after they won 2-1 against Lincoln City in the first round of the FA Cup that his job is to take each match as seriously as any other.

“It’s like anything else – I stay in work by the good results I get,” he said.

“The number of years I’ve been in this industry, you get a little bit cynical.

“It’s quite hard to wrestle your thoughts from that.

“Especially when you come on to the coaching side, because your job is to win football matches.

“Whether that be Hampshire Senior Cup, FA Cup, FA Trophy or the league.

“My job happens on Monday, Tuesday and Thursdays, when we’re on the training ground.

“I will prepare them [the team] with as much information as possible for the next team ahead.”

Spitfires are big favourites for this clash and are currently on a seven-game unbeaten streak.

Horndean currently sit in 12th in the Sydenhams Premier Division and were narrowly defeated 1-0 by Ascot United in the FA Vase on Saturday.

The Spitfires’ recent string of results stretches back to early October.

In that time have beaten Folland Sports 3-1 in the Hampshire Senior Cup and have reached the second round of the FA Cup for the first time in their history.

On top of that they are now just four points away from second in the Conference. But Hill is keen to keep Eastleigh feet firmly on the floor.

He said: “We’re in a nice little run at the moment.

“Let’s not get carried away and we need to continue that run this week.”
