ROMSEY will witness a very special event when the RNLI Bi-Centenary Scroll comes to town.
The scroll, celebrating the 200th anniversary of the charity, is touring the British Isles to be signed by fundraising groups, lifeboat stations and specialist teams. Romsey successfully won a bid to bring it to the town where it will be signed at the Romsey and District RNLI branch’s annual general meeting (AGM).
Dr Helen Doe who was commissioned to write a new history of the charity, One Crew – The RNLI’s Official 200-year History, will also be there to give a talk.

Dr Doe, an author, historian and popular speaker who lives in Romsey, will share some inside stories from her research followed by a book signing with 55 per cent of each sale going to the RNLI.
The RNLI has saved more than 144,000 people. The local branch fundraises around Romsey and Chandler’s Ford. In 2023, more than £20,000 was raised by the Romsey RNLI volunteers.
The AGM, talk and scroll signing will be held at The White Horse Hotel, in Market Place, on Wednesday, March 20 at 7.30pm.
There will also be a Flag Day street collection in Romsey on Saturday, March 23 where volunteers will be encouraging the public to donate.
