A SHOPLIFTER caught stealing in Winchester has been ordered to pay more then £300 compensation within a month, even though he has little money.
Sonny Foreman, 25, was caught stealing alcohol worth £14 from the Co-op on City Road on September 17 and DVDs, valued at £294.77, from HMV in the Brooks Centre between August 31 and September 17, a court was told.
Foreman, of Eastfield Road, Andover, admitted the charges when he appeared at Basingstoke Magistrates Court on Wednesday February 14.
He was sentenced to a community order for 19 days with a rehabilitation activity requirement for up to six days.
The magistrates imposed no order for costs because Foreman is of limited means and priority should be given to paying the compensation of £308.77. The payments must be made by March 13.
It was unclear from the court record how a man of limited means can find £300 in less than a month.
