He was arrested in St George’s Street on suspicion of theft before being charged at Basingstoke Magistrates Court on Monday, January 8.

Green also stole a £6.85 bottle of wine from the Co-op on January 1, for which he was ordered to pay £13.70 in compensation, another bottle of wine for the same value and from the same shop on December 31, an £8 bottle on December 28 and a £12 bottle on January 2 from Marks and Spencer, for which he was ordered to pay £20 in compensation and an £8.50 bottle of wine from Tesco on January 6.

Green pleaded guilty to all offences. No costs were ordered due to the defendant’s limited means and compensation to take priority.
