A WINCHESTER restaurant has received a one-out-of-five food hygiene rating following an assessment.

Patisserie Valerie, on Winchester High Street, was given the score after an inspection on November 1.

The Food Hygiene Agency said that the restaurants' hygienic food handling requires improvement, including preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling and storage.

The management of food safety - which is defined by the agency as the system or checks in place to ensure that food sold or served is safe to eat, evidence that staff know about food safety, and the food safety officer has confidence that standards will be maintained in future - was rated as needing major improvement.

However, the cleanliness and condition of the facilities and building, including having appropriate layout, ventilation, hand washing facilities and pest control to enable good food hygiene, was rated as being “generally satisfactory”.
