HAMPSHIRE TV presenter and football pundit Jeff Stelling is being recognised with an MBE.

Mr Stelling, 68, is receiving the honour for his services to sport, broadcasting and charity.

He lived in Alresford for many years before moving to Bishop’s Waltham with his wife Liz and their three children.

Originally from Hartlepool, the presenter hosted Gillette Soccer Saturday for Sky Sports from 1994 to 2023 and hosted the Champions League between 2011 and 2015.

He is also an ambassador for the charity Prostate Cancer UK and president of Hartlepool United.

His career as a journalist started on the Hartlepool Mail and as a broadcaster for Middlesbrough FC on Radio Tees in the 1970s. He later became a sports presenter on the LBC Radio Sportswatch programme, before moving to BBC Radio 2’s weekend sports programme Sport on 2.

Alongside presenting sports programmes, Mr Stelling has also hosted several game shows, including Countdown from 2009 to 2011, and Alphabetical from 2016 to 2017.

More recently he had several cameos in the popular Apple TV sports comedy Ted Lasso. He started hosting Talksport’s breakfast show every Monday and Tuesday on December 4.

Other recognitions that Mr Stelling has previously received include an Honorary Doctor of Professional Studies by the University of Teesside in 2007 and being named Sports Broadcaster of the Year for four years running by the Sports Journalists Association.
