As Christmas approaches, many of us will look to head to a garden centre to experience a bit of festive cheer, but which is the best one to visit nearby?

We asked our readers on Facebook to decide exactly that, and here is what they concluded.

Top 5 garden centres to visit at Christmas near Winchester

Brambridge Park Garden Centre, Colden Common, SO50 6HT

Situated within the beautiful walled gardens of the Brambridge estate, Brambridge Park Garden Centre is very popular with our readers.

One reader commented: "We love Brambridge and the garden society the food is lovely there too."

This year, Brambridge Park is hosting 'Breakfast with Santa' and 'Santa's Grotto' events, as well as its usual Christmas displays.

Long Barn, Alresford, SO24 9EJ

The second most popular garden centre nearby, according to our readers, is Long Barn in Alresford.

Growers and distillers of lavender, this garden centre features a quaint little cafe where visitors can enjoy seasonal food and drink.

This year, they have a fantastic festive display and plenty of different trees to choose from.

One reader said: "My absolute favourite is Longbarn in Alresford."

Keydell Nurseries, Havant Road,  PO8 0UU

Slightly further afield than the others, Keydell Nurseries is the third-best garden centre according to our readers on Facebook.

This year, festive activities include 'Santa's Grotto', 'Santa's Woodland Walk', a 'Dog Grotto' and more.

One reader said: "Keydell near Havant, well worth the visit."

The winter wonderland certainly makes for a great day out this Christmas.

Haskins Garden Centre, Southampton, SO18 3HW

Part of a successful chain of garden centres, the Southampton branch is the closest and was voted fourth by our readers.

Some readers simply commented: "Haskins" in response to our question, and it is clear to see why.

This year, the garden centre has a huge display of festive items and even serves a 'luxury pie and mash' - perfect for late-night Christmas shopping

Longacres, Bagshot, GU19 5JB

Finally, and again, further afield, Longacres was voted in fifth place.

One reader said: "Longacres is truly incredible. Huge and stunning. Great cafe/restaurant too. Highly recommend a day out here."

Longacres always has an excellent festive display, with crackers candles and more available to buy.
