The Christmas tree has been put up in the middle of the city centre.

Ahead of the annual light switch-on and the Cathedral Christmas Market, the Christmas tree has been put up in the city centre.

It was put up on Monday, November 6, a week ahead of when the festive celebrations begin.

The Christmas light switch-on is taking place in The Broadway outside the Guildhall on Thursday, November 16.

The annual Christmas light switch-on is organised by Winchester BID and sponsored by Dutton Gregory Solicitors. Throughout October the public voted for a local hero to turn on the lights and Christmas tree.

Nominations for the local hero closed on Tuesday October 31 and will be selected by a panel before being announced at the event. Previous heroes include Jessica Giles and Lily Lomas.

With Heart Radio hosting there will also be Santa’s sleigh and live performances from Harestock Primary School Choir, The Pilgirms’ School Chamber Choir, Winchester A Capella, Intergr8 Dance, Theatre Royal Winchester, Spitfire Sisters, Rock Choir and Diva Academy.

There will also be a Christmas tree and events in The Brooks Centre with the free soft play being temporally closed till the new year
