Faith Healer by Brian Friel coming to Theatre Royal Winchester

Brian Friel’s Faith Healer is coming to the Theatre Royal.

The cast from the London Classic Theatre will take the audience on a journey, with four monologues, to the heart of Welsh and Scottish villages in the 60s, before eventually returning to faith healer Frank Hardy's native Ireland.

Accompanied by his mistress Grace and his manager Teddy, Hardy works wonders from village to village, blending theatricality and spirituality.

Paul Carroll, lead actor, said: “It is an honour to be playing Frank Hardy. Every Irish actor of a certain age, longs to be cast in the role of the Faith Healer.

“Faith Healer is classic masterpiece from the last century. Audiences should always try and catch Friel when a play of his is being performed, but when that play is Faith Healer, they should make it their business to see it.

“They will walk away from the play feeling like they have experienced something very special. They will remember it and think about it long after they leave the theatre."

Brian Friel has been regarded as one of the greatest living playwrights in the English language. He has been compared to an “Irish Chekhov” and described as the universally accented voice of Ireland.

Friel wrote more than 30 plays across six decades, including ‘Philadelphia, Here I Come!’ (1964) and ‘Translations’ (1980), before he died in 2015.

Faith Healer will be at the Theatre Royal, in Jewry Street, from Tuesday, November 14 to Thursday, November 16. Shows start a 7.30pm with an additional matinee at 1.30pm on Wednesday, November 15.
