EMERGENCY roadworks are causing heavy delays for drivers around Nursling and Romsey.

Four-way traffic lights installed for emergency Southern Water works in Romsey Road in Nursling, at the junction of Upton Lane and Romsey Club, are causing traffic to build into Romsey, according to a county councillor.

However, the utility company has assured people in the area that the traffic management will be removed today (October 13).

This morning, Cllr Nick Adams-King, posted on Facebook: “There are more unscheduled roadworks on the A3057 this morning. Once again put in place by Southern Water.

“Traffic is very heavy in the area and there are substantial delays, particularly headed toward Romsey.

“I've informed highways who are on the case already. At the very least the lights need to be manually operated at busy times.”

A Southern Water spokesperson said: “These are emergency works in relation to a water supply incident at Testwood Water Supply Works.

“As this incident is starting to move in the right direction (we still have no customers without water) the traffic management including the traffic lights will be removed today.

“We’re sorry for the disruption this has caused in the area to residents, businesses and commuters.”
