People in Winchester can find out more about eco-friendly fashion as ‘The Great Green Wardrobe’ comes to a shopping centre in the city.

The interactive display will offer practical tips on how to reduce clothes waste - as part of Winchester's Green Week which will see events take place across the city.

Hampshire County Council’s waste prevention team will also be on hand at set times to answer questions.

The event marks Sustainable Fashion Week.

Councillor Nick Adams-King, cabinet member for Universal Services, said: “More than 300,000 tonnes of unwanted clothes are thrown away in the UK every year some of which have only been used a few times.

"This is enormously damaging to the environment, and also costly to local authorities, including the County Council, as taxpayers end up picking up the bill for the disposal of this unnecessary waste.

"The Great Green Wardrobe is coming to Winchester to show how a few lifestyle changes that keep clothes out of the bin, can make a huge difference to the planet, and help people save money too.”

The Great Green Wardrobe will be located on the ground floor of The Brooks Shopping Centre, Middle Brook Street, Winchester, SO23 8QY, opposite Primark, from Monday, September 25 to Sunday, October 8.

The Smart Living team will be available to answer questions between 11am and 2pm on September 25, 27, 29, 30 and October 3, 4, 8.

Sustainable Fashion Week is an international and online campaign, led by the community interest company, A Single Thread CIC: Sustainable Fashion Week

The Great Green Wardrobe is part of Hampshire County Council’s waste prevention and lifestyle initiative, Smart Living.
