MEMBERS of a floral club enjoyed a talk from a Hampshire florist who showed them how to make displays fit for churches, weddings and more.

Broughton Floral Club hosted Carole Stables at its latest meeting.

Audrey Watts, from the club, said: “Having visited us before, we knew Carole Stables would be a great success, and she certainly was.

“She started her demonstration with an old water trough which she proceeded to fill with white mophead hydrangeas and white stock stems, the base was filled with a collection of foliage, wax flowers and hypericum berries.

“A large wreath came next with tubes spaced around the circle into which Carole placed blue eryngiums, small sunflowers and dried orange grasses. This would suit a church display, especially at harvest festival time.

“A delightful bowl of bright red Celosia set in a variety of tropical foliage, ferns, and dracaena stems to name just a few came next. Carole set the bowl into a huge Lego brick for display.

“A rustic step ladder was next on the agenda which was used in many wedding displays by all accounts. An oblong trough was filled with a cacophony of beautiful foliage, long asparagus ferns, soft ruscus, alchemilla mollis, stems and hypericum berries.  White mop head hydrangeas sprays of wax flowers and white stocks fill the air with perfume to accompany this delightful arrangement.

“Lastly an iron gate structure with a basket was filled with variegated foliage, pink germini, ami stems, purple clematis flowers, spray roses called Antigua and hypericum berries. Carole had also completed another display using the same foliage and flowers.

“A splendid evening and members all enjoyed seeing Carole again."

Broughton Floral Club will next meet on Wednesday, October 4 at Broughton Village Hall. Rosemary Legrand will give a talk entitled ‘My Japanese Journey’.
