In June and July 2022 I wrote to the Hampshire Chronicle about the old Sainsbury's shop in Winchester.

Currently, there is an exhibition about Coco Chanel at the V&A and it made me remember that there was a Chanel shop in Winchester.

It was situated on the High Street to the right of the Buttercross.

I wonder if there is any record of this shop?

I presume that it was linked to the main fashion house as the name would be copyrighted?

There were a few very high-end ladies' fashion shops in Winchester that I can remember in the 60s and part of the 70s at least, two in the Square.

Winchester used to be quite a mix of high-end and every day on the High Street and the quieter and more chic Square. Ordinary mortals never set foot in those expensive shops!

I’d love to hear whether anyone remembers those shops and if the Hampshire Chronicle could run an article on them?
