Winchester College is ready to hold its free family craft mornings at the school museum, the Treasury, on August 23 and 25 from 10-11am.

The sessions will provide children the chance to create simple crafts based on items in the Treasury.

Attendees will be making toy dragonflies based on the images in some Victorian stained-glass windows, origami dogs based on a Chinese porcelain figure of a hound, and a turquoise bead necklace based on an ancient Egyptian scarab amulet.

All the crafts allow children to customise and decorate their creations in any way they like.

Children are also handed information about the museum artifacts, including how they were created and worked.

In between crafting sessions, children can follow a trail in which they look for the horses which are still hiding in the Treasury (which used to be a stable) or try their hand at some parrot-themes puzzles.

In 2022, more than 80 people attended two classes, where they made snake-covered Medusa-style headbands, Chinese dragon puppets, and a toadstool-inspired peg for their wellies.

Suzanne Ceiriog–Hughes, Treasury manager, said: "Over the long summer holidays, it can be difficult to find affordable activities to keep children stimulated and occupied.

”Our craft mornings are designed to provide an entertaining, creative and educational experience for children.”
