MARWELL has blamed delays for guests attempting to access the site on traffic accidents “outside of (their) control”.

As previously reported, there were heavy delays on the roads leading to the zoo on Thursday, August 10.

According to Romanse, which provides up-to-date traffic information across Hampshire, there was a crash on Winchester Road at approximately 10.25am which caused heavy delays, as well as an incident on the B2177 near Lower Upham at approximately 10.41am.

These incidents occurred the same day the popular TV character Bluey and Bingo, from the popular tv show Bluey, were visiting the zoo for a Thursday Funday.

A Marwell spokesperson told the Chronicle: “We anticipated our Bluey and Hey Duggee Thursday Fun Days would be popular therefore we are running these events as strictly prebooking only. Pre-booking allows us to carefully limit guest numbers to ensure an enjoyable visit within our operational capabilities.

“Unfortunately, there were several nearby road traffic incidents outside of our control, which caused significant delays to our guests travelling to the zoo. Our car parking team worked extremely hard to park everyone safely and quickly as well as assist guests so they could enjoy their day out as much as possible.

“As a conservation charity, we thank both our guests and valued members for their ongoing support. By visiting us, you are helping us to protect wildlife in the UK and overseas.”

Bluey and Bingo will return to Marwell on August 24, while big and cuddly dog Duggee, from Hey Duggee, will be at the zoo on August 17.

Admission will be only available to guests who have booked in advance, with the characters joining story time sessions at 11am, midday, 1pm, 2pm and 3pm.
