I was particularly concerned to read the recent article published in the Hampshire Chronicle in which Bloor Homes have effectively outlined their proposal to commence the development of our beloved South Winchester Golf Course.

As is the case with most development proposals they like to try and flower up what is essentially a housing development which in this instance is for approximately 1,000 units.

Our golf club was founded 30 years ago way back in 1993. I joined the club 25 years ago and have not looked back since. As for the majority of members South Winchester has become pretty much my second home. A very high percentage of the members have belonged to the club for well in excess of 20 years which is testament not only to a fabulous golf course but it also speaks volumes for the amazing social benefits.

I have literally made hundreds of new friends and can honestly say that I would be at loss if I were to lose this. As well as my social well being it is also important not to forget people's mental well being. It wasn't that long ago that the nation was in the grips of the Covid pandemic in which we all remember the hardship of having to socially distance amongst other things. Golf, by its very nature was one of the very few pastimes that was able to continue albeit with some precautionary measures.

I along with the majority of the 900 members will be desperately saddened should SWGC be allowed to become the victim of the developers bulldozers all in the interests of a quick short term gain without understanding and consideration for the long term pain.
