THE public will be able to learn more about the archaeological works in the city centre at an open morning this weekend.
Pre-Construct Archaeology is welcoming people to see what they’ve found so far from the excavation at the Central Winchester Regeneration site, with insider access to trench one of four, next to Coitbury House.

Work began on Monday, July 17 with excavation in the car park next to St Clement’s surgery in Tanner Street. The asphalt and modern layers have been removed from trench one.
Sessions will be running from 10am to 1pm on Saturday, July 29 with visitors asked to meet the architects at their gazebo in Abbey Gardens. No booking is required.
The event coincides with the Council for British Archaeology’s Festival of Archaeology which runs from July 15 to July 30.
