Planners have permitted a scheme for a new garage and extension to a house in Chandler's Ford.

The application, submitted by Mr and Mrs Holland, had sparked objections from Valley Park Parish Council and three residents.

The scheme, for a house in Stinchar Drive, was approved by Test Valley Borough Council's southern area planning committee on Tuesday July 25.

Valley Park Parish Council's objection said: “There are concerns about potential overdevelopment of the site and effect on neighbours, by shadowing their garden. It can also affect the street scene.”

Steven Grimbley, of Stinchar Drive, said: “The removal of the garage will cause major disruption to me as this borders onto my property and currently there is mains electric that runs along the side of the garage.

“The design and appearance is not in-keeping with existing neighbouring properties. Any building work will require people to be on my side of the property causing major disruption. The dust and dirt will impact on my wellbeing.

“There would be a loss of privacy from my garden as I am currently not overlooked by any properties.”

Despite the concerns, the planning officer's report said: “It has been assessed that the proposed development would not result in harm to the character of the area, or reduce amenity to unacceptable levels, or result in harm to highway safety.”

Cllr Alan Dowden, who represents the Valley Park ward, said: “The viewing panel was very worthwhile. The parish council was concerned about this. It could be seen as overdevelopment. I'm not comfortable with it, but I can't see a valid planning reason to refuse it.”

The application was permitted with one abstention.
