SOROPTIMISTS of Winchester are celebrating a successful start to the summer with picnics, fundraisers and a stall at Hat Fair.
Events started last month with a picnic for the families and children of Winchester Refuge.
Members of the women’s club, which aims to improve the lives of others, donated tasty food with picnickers sitting in the shade next to the play area at St Swithun's School. As they do every year, St Swithun's students helped out by playing games with the children.
Summer fundraising began with a car boot sale in the Cattle Market, with volunteers spreading the word about their work supporting women and girls while collecting money for local charities.

Winchester Soroptimists will be back at the car boot sale on Sunday, August 6 and are hoping for similarly sunny weather.
To kickstart the month, the club took part in Hat Fair with a stall in Abbey Gardens next to the sensory garden they established for the blind in 1975.
The event was hailed a great success with lots of people showing interest in what they do.
Winchester club president, Julie Blackwell, said: “Abbey Gardens was full of people and performers giving a holiday air to the day. We were one of two charity stands in the gardens and as our colours are prominent we were very noticeable. We like that.”
