A MAN who was caught with a rounders bat concealed under his trousers has been fined.

Archie Patrick Russell Duncan, 20, of Lockerley, was visiting Salisbury to sell his old phone on February 2, 2022, when police were called to the city centre following reports of someone with a machete.

PC Douglas found Duncan with another person at Salisbury Railway Station while the machete-wielding suspect was still unknown.

He told Duncan that if he suspected they were involved they would be arrested and decided to search him.

Before being searched, Duncan admitted to having a small amount of cannabis on his person.

He told PC Douglas: "I'm going to be completely honest with you man, I have a rounders bat."

The court heard how PC Douglas found "a small baseball bat stuffed down his trackies" and Duncan said he had it to "defend himself".

Duncan told the court he felt "nervous" coming into Salisbury because he had been attacked previously by a group of people a "few weeks before" the incident.

Salisbury Magistrates found Duncan guilty of possessing an offensive weapon in a public place, fined him £180 and ordered him to be deprived of the bat.
