I would like to highlight that Wellow residents, including myself, have written letters of complaint to Test Valley Borough Council regarding what can only be described as political voting at the Southern Area Planning Committee by the Liberal Democrats concerning the traveller site application at Embley Lane, Wellow.

The application was permitted with all six Liberal Democrats voting in favour and four Conservatives voting against.

The letter published on June 23 written by Cllr Sandra Gidley saying that it is entirely the fault of the Conservative administration that councillors felt they had no choice but to support the application goes a long way in confirming this.

Rather than blaming the Conservatives for all the inadequacies of Test Valley Borough Council of which these Liberal Democrats are members of, some of which have been members for quite some time, perhaps Cllr Gidley and the others who voted politically in favour of this application at the expense of Wellow residents and against their own local plan would like to be proactive and offer suggestions of suitable sites in their own wards for traveller sites such as the one permitted here in Embley Lane.

Planning applications are not and should not be made political.
