MARWELL Zoo is hoping to encourage more students and over 60s through its gates with reduced ticket prices.

Concessions and students currently have to pay £21.13 to go to the zoo in Colden Common.

But from Monday, July 3 students aged 17 and over, with a valid student ID card, and seniors aged 60 plus, will be able to go see the animals for just £15 when booking online.

A spokesperson for Marwell Wildlife said: “Through our conservation work we understand the many health benefits of being able to connect with the nature around us.

“We want to extend this to as many people as possible to increase awareness and wellbeing and encourage behaviours that can help nature to thrive on a global scale.

“Marwell is the perfect day out for older neighbours, friends or relatives who may be feeling isolated, or grandparents who provide childcare for their grandchildren.

“It’s a great opportunity to learn about more than 130 animal species, their conservation status and what we’re doing to try to protect them into the future.

Hampshire Chronicle:

“We hope to encourage more visits from students in our community who could play a vital role caring for wildlife and the wider environment in years to come.

“Studies show that taking a break from studying reduces stress levels. We also know that connecting with nature has amazing mental health benefits. Plus, Café Graze sells great cheesy chips.”
