A NORTH Baddesley beauty salon can move to a larger premises after plans were approved.

Emma Scott applied to move her business into the former dental practice at 32 Botley Road.

It was permitted despite concern from neighbours over the parking arrangements.

Test Valley Borough Council's southern area planning committee approved the scheme on Tuesday June 13.

Jeffrey Richards, of Botley Road, was concerned about a potential increase in traffic. He said: “The neighbours are concerned that this will be unsatisfactory.

“The dentist only worked three days a week. We got used to it but there were frequent parking problems. This was when there were seven parking spaces. This plan only includes four.

“On some occasions, I had to get people out of the dentist's chair to move their car. The beauty salon will operate six days a week.”

Ms Scott said: “The business has become well-established. There will be fewer staff and customers than the dental practice. We would see a maximum of 25 customers a day.

“We're a quiet business and we want to work with the local residents.”

Geoff Cooper, North Baddesley ward councillor, said: “I am pro-business, it's good for our village. I congratulate this business for expanding.

“But it must be the right business for the right area. My concern is over the traffic this could generate. It will lead to a high number of clients. The business has the potential for high customer turnover which will have detrimental impacts on the neighbours.”

Cllr Sandra Gidley spoke in support of the scheme. She said: “I did have concerns about this as my experience of using beauty salon is having shorter appointments, when these will be up to an hour and a half.

“But I have been won over by the applicant and suitable provisions will be in place to ensure parking disruption is minimal.”

Cllr Alan Warnes said: “It has been good to find out how this will work.”

Cllr Alan Dowden said: “I share the concerns of the local residents. It is in the interests of the applicant for the staff and clients to be respectful.”

Ms Scott told the committee that she would be willing to add extra time to appointment slots to ensure there was no crossover of cars entering and leaving the area.

The plan was permitted unanimously.
