A pub in a Hampshire market town had decided to put its refit plans on hold for 'the foreseeable future'.

Last week, The Square Cow, in Wickham, announced that it would be closing for refurbishment on June 11 and reopen as No.1 The Square in partnership with Quob Park.

However Frank Dixie, from the pub, has now said that he will be postponing the plans and will continue to trade as normal with support from Quob Park.

In a Facebook post, Mr Dixie said: “After careful consideration and taking into account the economic climate Frank and Trish have decided to place the ambitious plans to perform a substantial refit on hold. The Square Cow will therefore continue to trade as normal for the foreseeable future with ongoing support from Quob Park.”

Commenter Jason Bourne said: “It is good to see that we are not losing a local but also that this is being facilitated by Quob Park who are clearly demonstrating their ongoing commitment to the community without which we might have seen a number of businesses fail and close. The hotel is one example for sure, as we know that some developers wanted to turn this into apartments, instead of which it has been preserved for future generations by a huge investment from Quob regardless of its near term profitability.”

Quob Park vineyard recently reopened the Old Tea House and the Old House Hotel in The Square.

It already runs a variety of events and experiences throughout the year at its venue in Titchfield Lane.

This year, it plans to hold tastings tours, cookery schools, plus more, as well as selling food boxes for people to experience fine dining at home.

On May 24, Mr Dixie posted about the pub's plans to become a seafood brasserie.
