A Hampshire country pub has plans for a 24-bed hotel, new car park and kitchen extension.

The Four Horseshoes, just outside Nursling, reopened in 2019 following an extensive renovation.

Thee operators have now submitted a planning application to Test Valley Borough Council for the major development.

The pub, which can be seen from junction 3 of the M27, is owned by the same brand as The Duke on the Test, just outside Romsey.

No comments in support or objection have yet been submitted as the proposal only went to planners this week.

On the planning statement, it said: “Since reopening in 2019, following extensive renovation, extension and investment, The Four Horseshoes has successfully become well integrated in the local area as a valued community asset, receiving Trip Advisors Travellers Choice awards in 2020, 2021 and 2022.

Hampshire Chronicle: Plans for 24-bed hotel

“The proposed annex will become an integral part of The Four Horseshoes operations with the public house providing shared facilities where breakfast and other meals will be served for overnight guests, which will help secure its future.

“The annex will be a one and a half storey detached building providing a total of 24 double ensuite bedrooms. Eleven rooms will be at ground floor level with office and ancillary plant room and 13 rooms will be on the first floor.

“The proposed 24 parking spaces to serve the annex will be linked to the existing parking for The Four Horseshoes, immediately to the east of the annex.

“Many of the regular customers at The Four Horseshoes are from Nursling Industrial Estate and increasingly from Adanac Park as this business park is being built out. There is significant demand from these customers for overnight accommodation. In addition, a lot of leisure travellers coming to the area, for example for Paulton’s Park, Romsey Golf Club and other Romsey area attractions, would be regular customers.

“It is anticipated that the accommodation annex will generate some eight full-time and 21 part-time jobs, whilst the PH will provide for some 14 full time and three part-time jobs.

“It is also anticipated that an additional eight seasonal jobs will be generated during busier periods.

“As a much-loved community facility the owners have prepared this application to help support The Four Horseshoes public house and give it the best possible chance of success in the long-term. The day-to-day operations of the public house will not change, and it is hoped that this application will secure the ongoing success this business for many years to come.”
