CHILDREN at a Winchester Nursery are coming together to help the animals at Marwell Zoo with its Safari Summer Week fundraiser.

Kingsmead Day Nursery has been teaching its pupils about endangered animals, as well as what they can do to help.

Marwell Wildlife is delivering conservation programmes ranging from the reintroduction of desert antelopes in the Sahara through to the community-based projects in Kenya, black and white rhino conservation in Zimbabwe and habitat restoration in the south of England. While the projects are making a positive impact, Kingsmead Day Nursery believes that more can be done, so has started fundraising in an effort to secure the future of wildlife for generations to come.

The Safari Summer Week will last from June 26-29 and will involve a range of activities for the children of Kingsmead to get involved in.

June 26 will be Responsible Rabbit’s Big Clean Up, with the children litter picking in local public spaces to make them great for the community. June 28 will see the Safari Sports Day take place for the children, allowing them to get active, while the Move for Marwell sponsored danceathon will commence on June 29 with the pupils setting themselves a challenge of dancing collectively for one hour without stopping.

Stephanie Cooke, fundraising advisor at Marwell Wildlife, said: “It’s fantastic that the children at Kingsmead Day Nursery are so keen to support what we do at Marwell and I’m really looking forward to cheering them on at their Safari Sports Day.

“Every penny adds up and so does our gratitude, so thank you Kingsmead Day Nursery for your loyal support, Marwell simply couldn't do what we do without you!”

Meanwhile, nursery manager Jemma Nicholson added: “We always try to inspire the children at Kingsmead to understand and care for the natural world in our community, which is why they are very excited to be involved in helping the animals at Marwell.

“Please donate if you can to spur on the children in their fundraising efforts. Your generosity will help secure the future of wildlife for generations to come. Thank you!”
