THE UK’s longest-running festival of outdoor arts is looking for volunteers to help pull off this summer’s event.

Play to the Crowd’s Hat Fair take over the streets and green spaces of Winchester from Friday, June 30 to Saturday, July 1.

The 48th annual celebration is only two days not three this year due to funding cuts from Arts Council England this year. Nevertheless, the festival is still set to welcome audiences of all ages to watch bold street theatre, music, dance, comedy, song, circus, national and international acts, local and youth talent, plus a carnival involving hundreds of school children and community groups.

The vibrant event that hosts tens of thousands of festival-goers each year requires a wealth of volunteers to keep it running like clockwork. Volunteer roles include helping to set up areas, tending to performers’ needs, raising money to support the festival, sharing information about the shows and giving directions around the city.

All prospective volunteers need to be aged 18 and over, friendly and responsible. In return, participants will gain a unique festival experience, meet performers from around the world, get to enjoy the performances and have meals and refreshments provided.
