A KINGS Worthy play park has been unable to open in time for the Coronation due to vandalism.

The Eversley Park Playground, located at Eversley Park Recreation Ground on Loader Close, was closed earlier this year.

It was scheduled to be opened in early May following refurbishment.

Kings Worthy Parish Council planned to be open to members of the public from Friday, May 5 in time for the coronation.

However, the council later announced on Facebook that the park will remain closed for the time being due to a combination of issues including vandalism on some of the site’s fencing.

A revised opening time has not been given.

In a statement published online, the parish council said: “The Kings Worthy Parish Council are deeply disappointed the Play Area is now unable to open in time for King Charles III Coronation weekend. By way of an update, there are three outstanding points that require resolution prior to the opening of the play area.

“1) During the inspection of the park, some snagging issues were identified and remedial works will need to be carried out.

“2) Unfortunately, the site fencing was vandalised on Wednesday night and we need to confirm that no damage was done. This may require further safety checks to be carried out.

“3) We are awaiting planning permission for the installation of the main tower and the tower is in storage as we await a resolution.

“Due to variables outside the parish council’s control, we cannot provide an estimated time for completion and the revised opening date at this time. Please keep an eye on the village Facebook page for further updates.”
