A TEST Valley archery club has said it would be a 'tragedy' if they are unable to find a new home.

Romsey Archery Club currently shoots at Longacre Farm, in Sandy Lane, however they will have to shortly have to leave.

The club now needs to find an alternative home, or it will cease to exist.

Ivan Taylor, of Rosslyn Close, North Baddesley, is a member of the club and explained its history.

The 78-year-old said: “The club was originally formed 75 years ago and known then as Timsbury Manor Bowmen. We currently have 50 members with ages ranging from 10 to 80. Over the past few years we have regularly held very successful ‘Have a Go’ sessions at Broadlands, Mottisfont and North Baddesley during their annual shows.

“We have several Archery GB-qualified coaches and run regular ‘Beginners' Courses’ for people who wish to take up the sport.

“At present we only shoot outdoors but for very many years we also shot indoors each week in the gym at Mountbatten School. That ceased during the recent pandemic after which the school required the area in which we stored our equipment for their own use.

“Our requirements are to be able to rent a level grass field approximately 150/200 yards long by 60/100 yards wide with no public access due to safety constraints. We ourselves would undertake the mowing of the grass and general care of the site.

“After 75 years it would be a tragedy for our very welcoming club to have to shut down.”

The club is asking that if a new field is available, contact romseyarchers@hotmail.co.uk.
