WINCHESTER businesses have been decked out in red, white and blue as the city prepares to celebrate the coronation.

There has been a buzz around the city over the coronation with shops on Winchester high street putting up window displays to mark the occasion.

Supermarkets, bakeries and charity shops were among buildings with flags, pictures of the King and bunting - with one even sporting a life-size cardboard cut-out of the monarch in the window of Cook.

People have been busy planning parties for the weekend, including scores of street parties.

Rosie Mellor also said: “There’s a big tradition on Edgar Road to have parties on the street. With another neighbour, we’ve organised an afternoon of Champagne, cake, tea.

Hampshire Chronicle: Matt Mole, florist

"It’s a great way to get to know your neighbours. I think, for me, the most important thing is the community side of it all.”

High street florist, Matt Mole said: “I’m having a little bit of a party, a family gathering. The royal family aren’t really important to me, but I do think they’re great. I loved the Queen. The Queen is just the best, even now.”

A screening of the coronation will take place on Saturday, May 6 at Winchester Cathedral, amongst other celebrations hosted there throughout the bank holiday weekend.
