A STUDY analysing levels of happiness, life satisfaction and anxiety has placed Winchester as the eighth most relaxed city in the UK.

New research has revealed Winchester as the eighth most relaxed city in the UK, with Chichester taking the top spot.

The study conducted by botanical experts, Cannabotech, used Office for National Statistics (ONS) well-being data to analyse levels of happiness, life satisfaction and anxiety in every city in the United Kingdom to establish which city is the most and least relaxed. 

Winchester ranked eighth with a relaxed index score of 38. When broken down, Winchester rated well in terms of life satisfaction, with the city having the second highest score as well as ranking fourth for happiness and feelings of worthwhile.

Meanwhile, Chichester topped the leader board with a relaxed index score of eight, with the highest ranking of life satisfaction and happiness as well as second highest ranking for feeling worthwhile. Chichester also ranked as the fourth least anxious city in the UK, contributing to its status as the most relaxed city in the UK. 

The city of Newry in Northern Ireland placed third with an index score of 16, whilst Lisburn, also based in Northern Ireland, came out as the third most relaxed city in the UK.

Winchester narrowly missed out on seventh, to Lichfield which achieved a relaxed index score of 34. The Staffordshire city has the fourth highest ranking of life satisfaction out of all 57 cities analysed as well as being the eighth happiest city.

Placing behind Winchester in the top ten was Cambridge and Derby as ninth and tenth respectively. Commenting on the study, a spokesperson from Cannabotech said: “The current climate of the UK is undoubtedly a stressful one, so it is vital to prioritise relaxation where we can. These findings offer a fascinating insight into which cities in the UK have higher levels of well-being and relaxation and serves as a useful guide to anyone seeking a more relaxed lifestyle.”
