A CHINESE takeaway has been given a vastly improved food hygiene rating by inspectors.

The Mandarin Chef in Winchester Road, Romsey was given a fresh score of four-out-of-five after an assessment on July 27, the Food Standards Agency's website shows.

Test Valley Borough Council gave the restaurant a rating of one during its inspection last year on the same date, meaning major improvement was necessary.

Those improvements have now clearly been made, with the establishment's hygiene now considered 'good'.

It means that of Test Valley's 165 restaurants, cafes and canteens with ratings, 132 (80 per cent) have ratings of five and just one has a zero rating.
