HUNDREDS of people turned out for this year’s Community Games event in Winchester.

The event on Sunday gave locals of all ages a chance to sample many activities, including those featured at the Rio Olympics and Paralympics such as gymnastics, athletics, basketball and wheelchair racing.

Dance, cheerleading, martial arts, painting were just some of the other activities on offer.

And for the runners amongst the crowd, A 1km fun run was also held, in association with the Winchester Half Marathon.

Prior to the event, Emma Back, chief executive of the Winchester Sport, Art and Leisure Trust, which coordinated the games, said: “The aim of the Games is to offer something for everyone to enjoy, whatever their age, ability or interests.

“The hard work of many volunteers and local sports clubs, and a grant from the Denplan Community Fund, have made it possible in this Olympic year.”

The Community Games concept was rolled out nationally following the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics. Sunday’s event was the second Winchester-wide event under the Community Games banner.
