A WOMAN has died and another motorist is fighting for life after a car crashed into a tree by a Hampshire road.

Police were called to the A30 at Water End, Basingstoke, after the one-car crash.

They discovered that a dark blue BMW was driving along the road heading towards Hook when it left the road and collided with the tree at about 3.30pm on Friday, June 24.

The 36-year-old driver suffered potentially life-threatening injuries and is in a critical condition at Southampton General Hospital.

A 30-year-old woman who was travelling in the front seat was taken to hospital but died from her injuries this morning.

An investigation has been launched and a Hampshire Constabulary spokesman said: "Officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU), who are investigating the incident, would like to hear from anyone who may have seen the collision or who saw the car prior to the incident.

"Anyone with information is asked to call Sergeant Adrienne Jerram, from the SCIU based in Eastleigh, on 101, quoting 44160236029, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
