THERE will be the chance to see more of Winchester Cathedral when it throws its doors open for an open evening.

The medieval nave will be cleared of chairs, allowing visitors to see the architecture in the evening light.

There will be a display on the current conservation programme and how ancient manuscripts are restored, as well as an opportunity to try bell-ringing.

The stonemasonry team, Friends of the Cathedral, music department, and head gardener will be on hand to talk about their work.

Children can be entertained with various activities.

The open evening on Tuesday, February 3, starts with Evensong sung by the Cathedral Choir at 5.30pm. Activities and displays run from 6.30pm until 8.30pm.

The Cathedral Choristers will give a short recital at 7.30pm.

Entry is free.
