NURSES who trained at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital 50 years ago reunited at a special event last month.

Nine members of the Nurses League met in Winchester for coffee and a slice of cake and a chat with current student nurses to talk about their training in 1964.

Since leaving Winchester some of the ladies have gone on to work in a variety of different fields, including the Countess Brecknock Hospice in Andover, with some travelling as far as Connecticut in the United States.

Jilly Woodhead, 68, of Woodfield Drive, stayed in Winchester following her training working as both a nurse and a secretary in between having children.

She said: “It was a superb day. Fortunately most of us meet quite regularly but it was a lovely chance to get together. The hospital did us proud.

“We had coffee and cake and we met with some student nurses after being given a tour around the hospital before we went to the Bridge in Shawford for lunch.

“I’d like to give a special mention to Karen Bishop for all she did for us at the hospital.”
