SCHOOLCHILDREN were given an insight into life at sea during the Second World War.

Year six pupils at St Faith's CE Primary School in Winchester met Prime Minister and the mayor of London and spoke to Second World War veterans while on a school trip to HMS Belfast.

David Cameron and Boris Johnson had been on board the ship to meet the veterans to mark 70 years since the D-Day landings in Normandy.

HMS Belfast, which is now a museum ship based in London, was the largest cruiser in the Royal Navy during the war. It took part in the D-Day landings in 1944 and escorted the Arctic convoys to the Soviet Union during 1943.
